Key visual for the project. It is a rather abstract image of a tight mesh of connected knots making waves with different parts being either more or less in focus. The visual simultaneously looks like a typical representation of a neural network as well as the open sea where hammerhead sharks - the namesakes of the HammerHAI project - reside.

HammerHAI – An AI Factory for Manufacturing, Engineering, and Research

HammerHAI (Hybrid and Advanced Machine Learning Platform for Manufacturing, Engineering, and Research) is a pioneering initiative based in Stuttgart, Germany created to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in industry and science. Coordinated by the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) in partnership with Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung GöttingenKarlsruher Institut für TechnologieLeibniz-Rechenzentrum, and SICOS BW, HammerHAI provides secure, scalable, and accessible AI resources for European businesses and researchers. HammerHAI is one of 13 “AI Factories” established by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking to catalyze AI innovation, foster collaboration, and fortify Europe’s AI capabilities.

HammerHAI will host an AI-optimized supercomputer at HLRS (coming in fall of 2025), that is designed for large-scale AI model training and inference. The platform will offer “cloud-like” usability, allowing seamless transition of existing solutions to the AI-optimized supercomputer, while complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the European Union’s AI Act, and all other applicable European AI and data protection regulations.

HammerHAI is conceived not just as a computing resource but also as a comprehensive AI ecosystem. It offers consulting, technical support, and training programs that are tailored to facilitate AI adoption in industry — with a particular focus on manufacturing, engineering, automotive, start-ups, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) — as well as in academic research. HammerHAI is based on a “concierge” support model, which provides hands-on guidance through all stages of the AI lifecycle, from project initiation to application deployment. Additionally, the platform includes pre-trained models, collaboration tools, and training workshops to make it easier for businesses and researchers to integrate AI into their processes quickly and effectively.

HammerHAI is co-funded by the European Commission, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and Art, the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art, and the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture.
